Zlatan Ibrahimovic seemingly opened the door for a possible return to international football with Sweden via a social media post.

After establishing himself as the nations’ leading goalscorer, with 62 goals in 116 caps, Zlatan Ibrahimovic hung up his international boots in 2016.

The veteran striker’s last appearance for his country came in the Euro 2016, and it was not exactly one to remember. Following a 1-0 loss to Belgium, the Swedes were eliminated from the competition after finishing rock bottom in their group.

In fact, he did not enjoy even a fraction of the success at the international stage as he did at club level.

The 39-year-old might have won 13 league titles with six different clubs but he never went beyond the quarter-finals of the World Cup or European Championships with his national side.

Sweden currently is competing in the Nations League, and it appears Ibrahimovic is set for a return with the intention of breaking the silverware drought with his country.

The AC Milan forward, who has enjoyed one of his best starts to a season scoring eight goals in just seven games, posted a picture of himself in his Sweden No.10 shirt with the caption: ‘Long time no see’.

Should Ibrahimovic return, he could restart his Sweden career with the friendly match against Denmark on November 11 before taking part in the Nations League clashes against Croatia and France.
