A possible candidate for the Real Madrid presidential elections has revealed changes he would make at the club if he replaces Florentino Perez.

Cox Energy founder Enrique Riquelme has announced he would prefer Jurgen Klopp as his Real Madrid manager instead of Zinedine Zidane and would re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo if he becomes the club’s next president.

Real Madrid will hold elections in 2021 to decide the president for the next four years. The club’s current leader Florentino Perez is expected to compete, having won the last three elections uncontested in 2009, 2013, and 2017.

But there have been reports that Florentino may have a rival this time in Enrique Riquelme. The Spanish entrepreneur, who is only 32 years of age, is one of few people who meet the requirements to become a candidate.

Speaking in an interview with El Partidazo de COPE, Riquelme didn’t rule himself out of the elections. He also revealed some pretty lofty and controversial ideas to help take the club forward.

“Zidane would not be my coach. I personally like Klopp a lot and [Real Madrid Castilla manager] Raul is doing very well,” said Riquelme.

The Valencian would also re-sign the club’s record scorer Cristiano Ronaldo. Despite the Portuguese turning 36 years old in February, he remains a formidable footballer.

“I put on the table that we re-fish Cristiano, because he has represented a lot for football and for Real Madrid,” said Riquelme.

“There are no old or young players, there are good or bad players.”

Riquelme also revealed his potential sporting director has approached Erling Haaland’s agent, Mino Raiola. He also didn’t rule out a move for Kylian Mbappe but stressed he would have to consult his accounts first.
