Due to his latest performances at Manchester City, some are convinced that Phil Foden can someday win the Ballon d’Or when he is older.

Phil Foden’s quality has been stated on this website several times before, but some professionals think he can even win the Ballon d’Or. Former Manchester City player Trevor Sinclair seems to think this might be the case with the youngster. During an interview with talkSPORT, he flat out stated that Phil has what it takes to someday compete for the award. We will tell you all about what he said right here: “I actually believe he can be [good enough to win the Ballon d’Or] if he keeps his feet on the ground and keeps working tirelessly as he is.

“I think he’s already in the conversation for Young Player of the Year in the Premier League and possibly even overall Player of the Year he’s been that good and that consistent. I don’t think a lot of people realise how quick he is as well. Not just when sprinting but moving with the ball and his unbelievable balance on both sides. I think Pep has come out and said many times he’s got an eye for goal, he’s seen that potential in him. Listen, he’s 20-year-old and we’re talking about him being a candidate for the Ballon d’Or, it speaks volumes of the boy.”

Carles Puyol gives Foden his seal of approval.

But perhaps the most impressive compliment Phil Foden can get is from an FC Barcelona legend who watched him play against Liverpool. Not everyone can get Carles Puyol’s attention, but he publicly praised the youngster after the game. He did it right after the impressive display that gave Manchester City the win against the Reds. Puyol decided to send out a short but precise tweet in which he wrote: “Phil Foden, what a player.”

If you get that seal of approval from one of the best defenders in history, you can rest easy knowing you are on the right path. Although he still has a long way to go, it’s safe to say Phil will have a great career if he keeps up the hard work. Pep Guardiola has a fantastic eye for this type of talent and he truly found a brilliant one in Foden.
