Timo Werner’s arrival does not threaten Olivier Giroud, who believes he can offer a different dimension up front for Chelsea.

Olivier Giroud was heavily linked with a departure from Chelsea in the last winter transfer window, with Inter Milan showing interest in the striker.

The Frenchman grew frustrated with the lack of game time and viewed moving away as the only possible solution for making it into the national team for the EURO 2020.

He ended up staying at the club after being assured of consistent minutes by manager Frank Lampard.

Lampard kept his promise as the 33-year forward started featuring frequently in the Chelsea line-up in the second half of 2019/20, ending the season with 10 goals to his name.

However, uncertainty once again started looming over the 2018 World Cup winner’s future at Stamford Bridge following the arrival of Timo Werner from RB Leipzig.

Giroud, who will now have to compete with Werner and Tammy Abraham to be the focal point of Chelsea’s attack, however, is confident about retaining his place in the line-up.

“I am confident for the coming year which will be good and busy at Chelsea. In every big club, there is competition. It motivates me. I still want to fight for my place,” he told beIN SPORTS.

“I am not naive. The club recruited Timo Werner to play, but we don’t have the same profile. If it had been a striker with the same profile, I would have been more worried.”
