Gabriel Magalhaes is looking forward to sharing the pitch with David Luiz, an influential footballing figure for him during his childhood.
The transfer saga took longer than it should have but Arsenal ultimately ended up victorious in the race to sign Gabriel Magalhaes.
Arsenal were understood to be in a three-way battle with Napoli and Everton for the talented defender’s signature, who played a key role in helping Lille secure Champions League qualification last season.
They reportedly paid in the region of €30 million to lure him away from Lille before the 22-year old committed to a long-term contract with the North London side.
Gabriel is the Gunners’ second major signing of this summer after Willian, who joined from rivals Chelsea on a free transfer.
The left-footed center-back could prove to be a great asset for Mikel Arteta as defensive issues in the team was a major concern for the manager in the 2019/20 season.
Gabriel is excited about the opportunity to play alongside David Luiz as he admits to being a huge admirer of his compatriot.
“For sure David is an example, he is a player I admire very much,” he told Arsenal Digital. “I was always a big fan of him and everything he achieved.
“I watched him since I was a kid, I played video games with his character, and today it is a dream come true to be here with him and hopefully play next to him soon.”
