The club’s third-greatest scorer was allowed to leave for free which came as a surprise to the fans and shock to a close teammate.

FC Barcelona’s decision to sanction the sale of Luis Suarez over the summer has yet again been questioned by Lionel Messi.

The Uruguayan marksman played an integral role in Barca’s success in the second half of the past decade as he helped the team win 13 major honors including a Champions League and four La Liga titles.

In 283 total appearances for the Blaugrana, he found the net an astonishing 195 times and registered 113 assists.

Ronald Koeman‘s arrival at the beginning of 2020-21, however, saw the aging striker deemed surplus to requirements at Camp Nou.

Suarez then secured a transfer to Atletico Madrid. He has been able to keep up his sharpness in front of goal, scoring seven goals in 10 La Liga games for his new team this season.

“I had thought about it before Luis Suarez [left], but that was crazy,” Messi told in an exclusive interview with La Sexta. “I didn’t like the way he left. I didn’t think he deserved to leave like that.

“He went for free to a team that is fighting for the same things as us.”
