In a crucial match for the EURO 2021 Qualification, we bring you Hungary vs Iceland player ratings after this game in Puskas Arena.
In one of three crucial EURO 2021 Qualifiers tonight, Hungary took stress to the extreme against Iceland. As locals, the Hungarian squad didn’t show too much promise during the first half against a well-organized Nordic squad. Everton forward, Gylfi Sigurdsson scored the only goal of the first half with a free-kick in which Gulacsi made a horrible mistake.
That should’ve been enough for the Iceland squad to hold on to a result, but they were playing in enemy territory with everything on the line. Instead of trying to secure the result by scoring another goal, they decided to play a more defensive match. This was a ghastly mistake they ended up paying at the end of the match.
Hungary’s late turn around.
After a hard-fought second half, it appeared the Iceland team was going to qualify for their second consecutive EURO. But the Hungarian team never gave up, they managed to get the equalizer with two minutes left on the clock. Loic Nego scored after a gift from the Nordic defensive line.
This was enough to help the locals dream of a victory. In the end, Szoboszlai was the hero of the night after scoring a wonderful solo goal. A well-placed shot to the bottom corner that gave Hungary the golden ticket to next summer’s EURO 2021.
