One of Manchester United’s most brilliant midfielders revealed how he changed his predilection from Lionel Messi to Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Messi vs Ronaldo debate rages on with many great young players taking sides as they thrive on their professional stage. When most of the youngsters are kids, they grew up with Messi’s magic without really appreciating what Ronaldo has done in this era. Staying at the very top of the game next to the Argentine star is something only Cristiano Ronaldo could do.

His stats and accomplishments currently surpass Messi and many of these players had a change of heart. They know how valuable Ronaldo’s hustle has been over the years and they give him mad props for it. This is the case of Scott McTominay, who is a Manchester United academy product and currently has Ronaldo as his ultimate idol. But this wasn’t always the case, he too was seduced by Messi’s hype without taking notice of Cristiano’s true value.

Ronaldo won McTominay’s heart.

Ahead of a crucial match between Manchester United and AC Milan, Scott McTominay spoke to the press via talkSPORT: “Obviously, when I was younger, I was really small, so [Lionel] Messi was a perfect example for me of someone who would get kicked about by bigger players. Messi just took to it like a duck to water. Watching him was a real inspiration, to show me that if he’s one of the smallest players on the pitch but the best player on it, then why can’t I be?

“Then as you get older and a lot stronger and bigger, you look to [Cristiano] Ronaldo – his physical attributes and the way that he’s worked on his body, everything. His body, his mind, his talent all come together as a collective. And for young players you don’t get a much better example.”
