The Norwegian star has become Man City’s first-choice penalty taker since joining the club from Borussia Dortmund.

As one of the deadliest strikers in the Premier League, it’s not surprising to see Erling Haaland taking penalties for Manchester City ahead of the likes of Rodri and Kevin De Bruyne.

Since starting his career in Norwegian side Bryne, Haaland has taken a total of 44 penalties.

In a UEFA EURO U19 qualifier in 2018, Haaland scored his first two penalties while playing for Norway. He then became Molde’s first-choice penalty-taker, converting all of his four spot-kicks for the Norwegian side. The same trend continued at Salzburg, where the striker scored four penalties during his one-year spell at the club.

Haaland’s missed penalties

Haaland’s first penalty miss came when he was playing for Borussia Dortmund. In a Bundesliga match against Augsburg, Rafal Gikiewicz saved Haaland’s spot-kick with a brilliant save.

Overall, Haaland has missed a total of four penalties in his career. Since joining Manchester City, the Norwegian star has failed to convert two spot-kicks.

The first instance came in City’s 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich in the Allianz Arena. In the 37th minute, Haaland had a golden chance to put his side ahead but missed the target with a blazing shot.

He missed another penalty for the Citizens when they faced Sheffield United on the third matchday of the 2023-24 Premier League campaign. The striker’s low shot bounced off the right post. But similar to the match against Bayern, he went on to make up for his mistake by scoring later on in the game.
