The Red Devils have been hit with multiple injury setbacks ahead of this weekend’s Premier League showdown with Arsenal.

The injury list grows longer ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League trip to Arsenal.

On Wednesday, United announced Raphael Varane as the latest injury casualty. The club didn’t state specifically what the injury is, but confirmed the French defender will be out of action for “a few weeks”.

Varane suffered the setback during last Saturday’s 3-2 home win against Nottingham Forest. He will now sit out of the Arsenal game this Sunday.

That said, with the international break coming up, Varane has a chance to recover and avoid missing too many games for United.

Manager Erik ten Hag is expected to give updates on the latest team injuries during a press conference on Friday.

One player to keep an eye on for injury news is Rasmus Hojlund. The €75 million summer signing is in the Denmark squad for the international break. The Danish national team manager, Kasper Hjulmand, has hinted that Hojlund might get some game time against Arsenal.

Who will replace Varane against Arsenal?

In Varane’s absence, the spotlight will be further cast on Harry Maguire.

The 30-year-old has been at the heart of constant speculation of late. He lost his spot in the team last season and the captaincy over the summer. A West Ham move was a possibility earlier this month, but he rejected it.

Now, with Erik ten Hag’s defensive options dwindling, Maguire could be back in the hot seat. The Englishman is one of three senior defenders available, alongside Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof.

United may also re-sign Jonny Evans on a permanent contract. The former Red Devils defender joined the club for pre-season on a temporary deal after leaving Leicester City in the summer.
