The Liverpool newboy was sent off with a straight red card after a tackle on Ryan Christie.

Alexis Mac Allister started for Liverpool in their 3-1 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday.

The Reds conceded an early goal as Antoine Semenyo put the visitors ahead in the third minute. However, first-half goals from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah brought Liverpool back into the game.

Jurgen Klopp’s men were pushing for the third goal when a foul by Mac Allister convinced the referee to send him off with a straight red card.

A studs-up challenge between the Argentine international and Ryan Christie didn’t seem serious enough to result in a red card. But the referee avoided double-checking through the VAR as Liverpool went a man down two minutes before the hour-mark.

The red card couldn’t help Bournemouth mount a comeback as Liverpool made it 3-1 through Diogo Jota only four minutes later.

How many games will Mac Allister miss?

According to the Premier League rules, a straight red card for dangerous tackles or violent conduct will result in a three-match ban, while red cards for dissent sideline players for two fixtures.

Mac Allister’s tackle could therefore keep him out of Liverpool’s squad for three matches. In this case, he will miss matches against Newcastle, Aston Villa, and Wolves.

Liverpool will most likely lodge an appeal to overturn Mac Allister’s red card. Judging by the video footage of the foul, they will most likely have a good chance of reducing the initial ban.
