The Man Utd goalkeeper, who had previously retired from international duty after the World Cup in Qatar, will now report back to the Cameroon squad.

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana will end a nine-month hiatus from Cameroon for the upcoming international break.

The 27-year-old retired from international football in December 2022. His decision came following a clash with manager Rigobert Song in the World Cup.

Onana played in Cameroon’s opening game against Switzerland. However, upon a disagreement with his manager’s tactics, found himself benched for the next match. Song then sent him home for Cameroon’s Group G finale against Brazil, which they won 1-0 in Qatar.

Onana has not been part of the international squad ever since – until now.

The Cameroonian Football Federation has released its 24-man squad list for the upcoming match against Burundi. Onana is one of three goalkeepers listed, along with Devis Epassy and Fabrice Ondoa.

The Burundi game will take place on September 12. It’s Cameroon’s final African Cup of Nations qualifier. A win will secure them a spot in the next AFCON tournament, which takes place between January 13 and February 11, 2024

Should Onana still be a part of the team, Manchester United could be without their €52.5 million summer signing for the following Premier League games:

  • Tottenham Hotspur (H) – 13/01/2024
  • Wolves (A) – 30/01/2024
  • West Ham United (H) – 03/02/2024
  • Aston Villa (A) – 10/02/2024

That’s just the initial list of games that Manchester United may have to play without Onana.

Depending on their progress this season, they may face further games in the Carabao Cup, FA Cup, and the Champions League by the start of 2024.
