The Manchester United loanee is regaining his best form after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Mason Greenwood joined Getafe on a controversial loan deal last summer, hoping to revive his career away from Old Trafford.

Manchester United suspended Greenwood after allegations of assault and attempted rape emerged against him in January 2022. The 22-year-old was cleared of all charges a few months later, but United decided against reintegrating him into their squad for the 2023-24 season amid pressure from several activist groups.

A loan move to Getafe has since given the English star enough playing time and exposure for a possible move to an elite side.

How good is Greenwood at Getafe?

Greenwood instantly secured his place in Getafe’s starting lineup upon his arrival at the beginning of the campaign. Similar to his time at Manchester United, the 22-year-old often plays as a deep-lying winger on the right flank, using his pace and physicality to create chances.

So far, Greenwood has registered six goals and four assists in his 20 appearances for Getafe across all competitions. His performances have attracted interest from a number of top clubs who are looking to prize him away from United in the next transfer window.

Will Greenwood return to United next summer?

Widespread reports in the English media have claimed that Manchester United are not planning to call Greenwood back from his loan deal as they are open to selling him next summer.

Barcelona have emerged as the main candidate to sign Greenwood, with SPORT claiming the Spanish giants are ready to offer him Lionel Messi’s iconic No.10 jersey.

However, Barca’s financial issues might open the door for other clubs to compete for Greenwood’s signature at the end of the season. United would be reluctant to accept an offer from the Premier League, which leaves Atletico Madrid as Barcelona’s leading contender in the race to sign United’s young forward.
