Borussia Monchengladbach forward Jonas Hofmann has delivered his verdict on Inter Milan’s game plan in their Champions League clash.
All four goals came in the second half of play, with Romelu Lukaku netting both of the hosts’ goals, including a 90-minute equalizer.
Along with Lautaro Martinez, the former Manchester United scapegoat has been shouldering the goal-scoring burden for Antonio Conte’s side over the past couple of seasons.
The 27-year-old Belgian striker has got off to a flying start to 2020/21, racking up six goals in five outings in all competitions.
Jonas Hofmann, who almost brought a win for Gladbach after finding the net in the 84th-minute, has reflected on Inter’s game strategy on Wednesday.
“Inter tried 99 percent of the time to give Lukaku the ball, he brings it down and allows the team to get up the pitch,” he said, as relayed by the Football-Italia.
“It was difficult for us to always place two men on him, one in front and one behind. But in the end, I think the work we did was excellent.
“Overall, I believe we deserved the point we gained.”
In the other match in Group B, under-strength Shakhtar Donetsk stunned Real Madrid in Spain, picking up a shock 3-2 victory.
The reigning Ukrainian title-holders will face Inter at home on matchday 2, while Los Blancos head to Germany to take on Monchengladbach.
