It might take a while before the current Chelsea squad are capable of challenging for the Premier League, believes Shaka Hislop.

Chelsea have gone all out in the transfer window so far.

The Blues have brought in the trio of Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell. Malang Sarr also joined on a free transfer.

On top all of that, there’s more yet to come from Chelsea. The West London side are set to announce Thiago Silva from PSG. Elsewhere, a swoop for Kai Havertz is close to being completed.

On paper, all of those names are enough to see the Blues labelled as ‘title contenders’ but Shaka Hislop doesn’t agree.

It’s one thing to sign a number of players and it’s another for them to gel immediately as a unit.

The ex-West Ham goalkeeper things Chelsea will need a while for all their signings to combine together efficiently and see them mount a title challenge.

“They [Chelsea] are [building to win the title], if not this season [then next],” Hislop said as quoted by Express Sport.

“My only question mark with the additions is how do all the parts fit together in terms of team chemistry?

“We’ve seen a number of teams in the past spend heavily in the summer and it just doesn’t gel straight away.

“I think without question, given the signings, given the age of the signings in particular, Chilwell still only 23, I think they are building a squad that will contend, if not this season, certainly in the long term.

“I think it’s good business from Frank Lampard on a number of different levels.”

Chelsea could see their summer spree eclipse £200m if they manage to secure their remaining targets. Without a doubt, there will be pressure on Frank Lampard to justify his side’s spending with silverware next term.
