United started their Champions League campaign with a frustrating loss at Allianz Arena.
Erik ten Hag has praised Casemiro for his leadership in Manchester United’s 4-3 defeat against Bayern Munich.
Bayern come into their first Champions League match of the season as clear favourites. But Ten Hag’s injury-ridden side managed to put up a fight at Allianz Arena, scoring three goals.
Pressure has mounted on Ten Hag after a host of underwhelming displays in recent weeks. But Casemiro’s fantastic performance and his late brace was difficult to criticize after the game.
“He’s the one,” Ten Hag told TNT Sport of Casemiro. “I’ve just mentioned, you have to stay in the game. You have to show the leadership in those moments when the team have difficult moments, difficult occasions, and we have to survive.
All the players can be with him. He shows the example that all the players follow. That’s Casemiro. In the end, he scored two goals.”
Casemiro brought Man Utd back into the game as he made it 3-2 in the 88th minute. But Bayern didn’t allow a late comeback as they scored their fourth goal of the night four minutes later.
The Brazilian star found the back of the net again in the 95th minute but it was already too late for Man Utd to escape the defeat.
The Red Devils will return to the Premier League, where they take on Burnely at Turf Moor this weekend.
