After Phil Foden’s standout performance for England, Roy Keane praised the Manchester City man and compared him to NFL star Tom Brady.
Phil Foden’s style of play reminds Roy Keane of the seven-time NFL Super Bowl winner Tom Brady.
While not one of the goalscorers, Foden was arguably England’s standout performer in Saturday’s 5-0 win over Andorra. His movements and passes were too much for the opposition to handle, and he set up Bukayo Saka superbly for the Three Lions’ second goal.
Such was the impact of Foden’s display that Keane, a former Manchester United midfielder, made a surprising comparison.

“I love my American Football and Foden has been like a top quarterback,” said the ex-Red Devils captain about the 21-year-old on ITV.
“He’s been like Tom Brady. He’s just picking people out. He’s got runners and he’s got wide-receivers. He’s making it look so easy.
“He’s been maturing well over the last year and he’s been playing most weeks for Man City. He’s playing in big games most weeks and in the top competition in Europe.
“[England manager] Gareth [Southgate] has got great problems in the next few months, but a lot can change in football. With injuries and possible suspensions, a lot can change, but Gareth is a lucky man as he’s got great options.”
Foden and England return to action next Tuesday for a World Cup qualifier against Hungary.
