Speaking after Arsenal’s stellar performance in their opening Champions League game, Thierry Henry opened up about their title prospects.

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has suggested a lack of squad depth could hurt the club’s Champions League title prospects with their jam-packed schedule.

On Wednesday, Arsenal made a triumphant return to the Champions League. The Gunners ended a six-year exile in style by bagging a resounding 4-0 victory over PSV Eindhoven. The performance led Jamie Carragher to ask Henry if the team could launch a title challenge.

In response, Henry warned his fellow CBS pundit that it is still early days, before offering a more candid assessment.

“As a fan, I want them to win it. As a fan, I wish we could win it,” Henry stated on CBS Sports.

“But the depth, playing the league, playing all the competitions that you have to play in England… it might be too much.”

That said, Henry admitted that unexpected outcomes are part of the tournament’s allure. He referenced Inter Milan’s run to the final and AC Milan’s semi-final appearance in the previous season as proof that anything can happen.

Henry believes a key reason for Inter and AC Milan’s success was because they were on the “right side of the draw” after the group stages.

The 46-year-old captained Arsenal to the Champions League final in 2006. They narrowly lost the final 2-1 to Barcelona in Paris with 10 men.

Three years later, Henry won the tournament for the first and only time in his career with Barcelona.
