Liverpool star Jordan Henderson has credited Jurgen Klopp for having an impact on his football and even his life outside the pitch.

Jordan Henderson has revealed how much of an impact Jurgen Klopp has had made on his career on and off the pitch.

The Liverpool captain joined the club as a 20-year-old from Sunderland back in 2011.

Little was known about Henderson at the time but the player has grown to currently be one of the most important players for the club in recent years.

The now 30-year-old captained the club to Champions League and Premier League triumphs and is also the current longest-serving player under Jurgen Klopp.

Henderson particularly saw his stock rise last season where he was awarded the FWA award ahead of fellow Liverpool stars and other top names.

The midfielder says he used to beat himself up if he made a mistake or played badly before Klopp taught him not to be so self-critical.

“I gain confidence from work when I work harder than everyone else, whether that would be in the gym or the pitch,” he said as quoted by the Mirror.

“That obsession has always been there from a young age. I never like to hear praise, I’m my own worst critic.”

“I find it difficult to switch off from football. I’m constantly thinking about football all the time, thinking about how I can improve.”

Henderson continued: “When I was younger, when I went home from playing football, I would carry it home, it would still affect me in my normal life.”

“When Jurgen came in, I feel he’s changed a lot for me personally as a footballer, but also as a human being and helped me to understand and look at things differently.”
