Despite their recent success on the pitch, Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson believes there is ‘more’ to come from the club.
Jordan Henderson finished last season in good spirits. He might have spent latter parts of the campaign on the sidelines due to injury but he lifted the Premier League title regardless.
The Reds ran riot domestically and there was no doubt they were more than deserved champions.
Asides ending their 30-year wait for a domestic title, the Premier League triumph was significant to Liverpool in more ways. It meant they had built on their Champions League triumph and translated that on the domestic front as well.
Henderson has played a key role in all of that and has so far called on his side to keep their hunger ahead of next season.
Liverpool might look like they are playing at the peak of their powers but the skipper can also see them getting even better.
“For me, there’s no real point to do it now because I still don’t feel I’ve finished, I feel there’s still a lot more to come.” Henderson told the club’s website.
“We can be a lot better. I know people will say, ‘Well, how?’ but trust us, in certain games we’ve played, in training sessions, we can still improve. Individuals can still get even better again.”
“I still feel as though there is a lot more to come from all of us and if we want to be one of the best teams, then you need to do it consistently – you can’t just do it for a few years and then that’s it. You need to keep going and going and going.”
“I look at what a lot of ex-players that have won trophies have said; it’s hard to win one but then it’s even harder to then win another one and another one and keep going.”
First up for Liverpool and Henderson in their title defence is a home game against newly promoted Leeds on the 12th of September. Before then, the traditional Community Shield will take place against Arsenal in about 24 hours from now.
