Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has heaped praise on Anthony Martial after the striker put in a good shift in the derby victory over Manchester City.

Anthony Martial was one of the standout performers as Manchester United claimed a 2-0 derby victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

The Frenchman led the line in the absence of Edinson Cavani and impressed throughout.

Despite not scoring, he was instrumental for United as they ended City’s unbeaten run.

In the first minute of the game, Martial won a penalty for his side which Bruno Fernandes converted.

Solskjaer was impressed with the striker and also singled out Dean Henderson for his performance in goal.

He said on Sky Sports: “When you come away with a 2-0 win and another clean sheet and a performance like this then you are delighted.”

“Every game is different. We went back to be a little bit what we wanted to be and that’s being direct. That was the Anthony Martial of old.

“Until two hours before warm-up I wasn’t sure if he’d play. Today he rediscovered himself. He was really strong on the ball and very positive.

“We had to defend well. No team in the world of football has a chance against Manchester City without being collective.

“Dean Henderson is getting more mature. I’m very happy with him.”

Elsewhere, Bruno Fernandes has called on his teammates to put up more of such performances moving forward.
