The shot-stopper has applauded the recent performances of a teammate who has become a key member of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad.

Luke Shaw is a “big weapon” for Manchester United, says David de Gea in the wake of the full-back’s upturn in form.

It was expected that Shaw would get limited minutes this season when Man United announced the signing of Alex Telles in the summer, but the Englishman has only improved under added pressure from the Brazilian.

Having shown improvement in both the attacking and defensive sides of his game, the former Southampton man has become one of the most reliable players for the Red Devils.

He has started in 15 of his side’s 21 Premier League games so far and has featured 24 times across all competitions in 2020-21.

The left-back put in a good shift in United’s scoreless draw against Arsenal on Saturday as he neutralized the threat by Nicolas Pepe while also made purposeful runs forward.

“He’s a big weapon for us,” De Gea told MUTV of Shaw. “I think the last few games he’s played he’s been playing really well.

“He’s a very important player for us and when he’s fit and playing at 100 percent I think he makes this team better.”
