Former Barcelona metronome Xavi Hernandez has been full of praise for the Manchester City assist king Kevin De Bruyne.
De Bruyne was a beating heart of Pep Guardiola’s team last season, performing at the highest level through and through, week in, week out.
The Belgian maestro has been running the show at the Etihad with his high-octane, energetic performances, setting up his teammates on 23 occasions in 2019/20.
Many are inclined to believe that Gabriel Jesus’ wayward finishing is accountable to the fact De Bruyne failed to shatter Thierry Henry’s record of 20 assists provided in a single Premier League season.
Yet, the 29-year-old playmaker managed to match the legendary Frenchman’s tally, which earned him the Premier League Player of the Year award last term.
During his illustrious five-year spell in Manchester, the former Chelsea flop has clocked up 57 goals and 89 assists in 222 appearances, wrapping up eight pieces of silverware in the process.
Xavi, who at his prime formed up a formidable midfield partnership with Andres Iniesta that brought immense domestic and continental success to Barcelona, has singled out De Bruyne as the best midfielder on the planet.
The current Al Saad head coach has been full of praise for the recipient of the Premier League Player of the Year award.
“Kevin de Bruyne, from Manchester City, seems to me of another level, brutal, he is able to make a difference,” Xavi told Qatar Airways.
“He is the best midfielder in the world and relatively young.”
Receiving such flattering words from one of the best midfielders ever is a recognition De Bruyne certainly deserves after everything he has done for Manchester City over the years.
