The Italian star has developed into one of the best midfielders in the world at Parc des Princes.
Ander Herrera has picked Marco Verratti as the best midfielder he has worked with, claiming he is at the same level as Barcelona legends Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta.
Since joining PSG from Manchester United in 2019, Herrera has managed to find his place in the French giants’ lineup. He made 19 Ligue 1 appearances last season, despite having serious competition from Mauricio Pochettino’s other midfield options.
Herrera admits he is playing alongside one of the world’s best midfielders at Parc des Princes.
When asked about the best midfielder he has played with, the former United star told Diario AS: “The best I have played with is Verratti, but I have played with very good ones.
“Thiago [Alcantara], what to say about [Paul] Pogba, a footballer with the best qualities. Or [Bastian] Schweinsteiger, who came to United in the final stretch of his career, but it was incredible to see him.
“Still, I have a special devotion to Verratti. The footballer always thinks that he has to play, but if Verratti plays in your position, you have nothing to say. I put him at the level of Xavi and Iniesta.”
Herrera enjoys playing alongside top players, insisting he is not afraid of fighting for his place in the lineup.
“In Manchester, they asked me the same question when Schweinsteiger, [Nemanja] Matic, Pogba or Fred were there,” he added.
“Danilo, [Idrissa Gana] Gueye and Rafinha came to Paris and I’ve played and I’ve always had responsibility.
“That has made me a better footballer. I like having midfielders by my side who make me better and make the team better.”
