Milan boss Stefano Pioli has described Zlatan Ibrahimovic as a ‘champion’ after the big Swede reached an impressive career milestone.

Stefano Pioli says he is not surprised to see Ibrahimovic keep up an impressive scoring record despite his age at 39.

This comes after the veteran forward surpassed 500 club career goals following a brace against Crotone on Sunday afternoon.

His latest brace also took Ibrahimovic to 14 Serie A goals for the season, just two behind top-scorer Cristiano Ronaldo.

Milan boss Stefano Pioli is not surprised to the 39-year-old remain at the top of his game given his attitude and mentality in training.

“Seeing how Ibra trains, we can’t be surprised, because he’s a champion,” Pioli told Sky Sport Italia.

“It’s difficult to maintain his current form, as when he’s been in shape and started, he almost always scored two goals, but this is what he’s like”

Ibrahimovic made a gesture just as he was substituted from the stands. It hinted at ‘two more’ and it’s already claimed the forward was referring to a possible contract extension with the club.

His current contract runs out at the end of the season, and Pioli remained coy when asked about it all.

“Zlatan is happy with us and I think the best thing about this team is that the players are happy,” he added.

“We are with a huge club, everyone wants to do well and I think it’s right that he continues playing, and that he does it with us.”

“He is an athlete who is highly motivated, is scrupulous in the way he looks after his body with everything from diet to recovery. He’s tired, but you don’t stay at this level for this long without looking after yourself.”

“It’s almost a race nowadays between the players to get to training early and leave later than anyone else. We’re enjoying ourselves and want to give our best.”
