Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has hailed the qualities of Riyad Mahrez after the forward put in a stellar display against Wolves.
Riyad Mahrez was one of the standout names for City once again as they continued their recent dominance in the Premier League.
The Algerian has impressed of late and was perhaps the best player at the Etihad on Tuesday night.
Mahrez was in one way involved in all of his side’s goals in their 4-1 victory over Wolves. He capped off that performance by scoring the third goal, his seventh in the Premier League this season. That tally means only Raheem Sterling and Ilkay Gundogan have scored more league goals than the Algerian.
In Manchester City’s 1-0 win over Arsenal, he was the one who provided the assist for Sterling. Last time out against West Ham, he also provided the assist for John Stones to score the winner.
Mahrez has put in another match-winning display much to the delight of Pep Guardiola.
“The last games were outstanding. He played really well. He has a special quality,” the City boss said as per the club’s website.
“He is a guy who dances on the pitch. He doesn’t lose balls on the pitch. He makes the extra pass. He attracts opponents on the pitch and after he makes a pass in behind.”
“He makes fantastic crosses. We knew it.”
“At Leicester, he was outstanding with Jamie Vardy. That’s why we pushed for him. We hope he can continue.”
City had to dig deep after conceding an equalizer just after the hour mark. Three goals in the space of 10 minutes eventually saw them win comfortably. Guardiola was pleased with his side’s reaction and says such mentality could come in handy in the Champions League.
“We reacted well. Not just right after to concede the goal. We have to be better. In knockout games you have to be stable,” he added.
“We created incredible chances before the 1-1. It is a good lesson for the knockout stages because the opponents at a high level, don’t need much to punish you.”
“To finish the way we did at the end is a really good night for us.”
