The veteran striker’s proficiency in front of goal was on full display over the weekend as he was the catalyst in Man United’s brave comeback.

Edinson Cavani put in a Man of the Match display after coming on in the second half of Sunday’s Premier League meeting between Manchester United and Southampton.

Cavani had a hand in all three goals as the Red Devils came back from 2-0 down until the hour mark to win the match 3-2.

The former Paris Saint-Germain man initially set up Bruno Fernandes before netting two of his own in about 15 minutes in what was arguably the most dramatic fixtures so far this season.

Eyebrows were raised when United signed him in the summer, with the 33-year-old deemed a ‘panic buy’ after the club remained largely inactive during the course of the transfer window.

He has already scored thrice in five Premier League appearances and is proving his critics wrong, and Bruno Fernandes insists there’s more to come from Cavani.

“For me, he’s one of those strikers that can smell the goal as you saw twice. He smelt the goal, you need to have this feeling to score these two goals,” Fernandes told the club’s official media.

“As I said some weeks and some months ago, Edi will help us and he is helping already. For me, one of the best games he played was against Basaksehir in the Champions League and nobody talks about that because he didn’t score but he did an amazing game.

“He helps a lot and he will help more and more in the future.”
