The ex-Liverpool and Barcelona star Luis Suarez appreciates the work that the Atletico Madrid youngster has put in recently.

Luis Suarez admired his in-form attacking partner Joao Felix as both look forward to a successful season with Atletico Madrid. The Portugal international has been in a formidable spell in the new season in La Liga. Suarez evidently moved to Atletico from Barcelona at the beginning of the season to join Felix and Diego Costa at Wanda Metropolitano. On the other hand, the 20-year-old Portuguese is currently in his second season after transferring from Benfica. Felix was brought in as a replacement for the Frenchman Antione Griezmann in July 2019.

Nevertheless, Joao’s first season did not progress as expected following his six goals and one assist in 27 fixtures. But, during the season 2020-21, Felix already has three goals and an assist from just six games. Furthermore, the young starlet netted two goals in the Champions League closing in on last year’s tally of three goals. And Suarez believes that Felix could become a match-winning striker in the future.

“He hasn’t surprised me. Because back when he was at Benfica he had already set about showing what a class player he is at a very young age,” Suarez told AS.

“It’s not easy when you move abroad. But in his first year, which was about settling in here, he produced moments of real quality.

“I think that this season he’s really starting to get the fans excited. He feels full of confidence. And, if the rest of us give him the help and support he needs, he can be a match-winner.

“But we can’t place all the responsibility on his shoulders. If we work as a team and everyone does their bit, that’ll have a beneficial effect on him. And everyone around him.”

The pair has already shared a total of 12 passes among themselves for Atletico. Additionally, Felix has created four chances for Suarez, the latter finishing two out of them. They now face Cadiz at home turf on Saturday in the Spanish League encounter.
