‘Havertz is a better signing than Sancho would be’, says Cascarino

Tony Cascarino reckons Chelsea have hit the jackpot with Kai Havertz, who he reckons is ‘a better acquisition’ than Jadon Sancho would be.

Havertz turned down interest from allegedly several top European sides to complete an €80m move to Chelsea this summer.

High hopes have already been placed on the 21-year-old’s shoulders for the new season, with plenty of potential still left in the bag. The pressure, therefore, is on for him to make an immediate impact in west London.

Several bookmakers and fans alike are even tipping him to find back of the net in tonight’s Premier League opener away to Brighton, despite having never played outside his native Germany before now.

But Cascarino is feeling upbeat over Havertz’s prospects all the same and is relishing the moment the youngster lines up alongside fellow new recruit Timo Werner and another young star in Christian Pulisic.

The ex-Blues striker told The Times: “I cannot wait to see Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Christian Pulisic leading the line for Chelsea.

“Frank Lampard’s team now have the most exciting front three in the Premier League and, whisper it, they have what it takes to be more prolific than Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino at Liverpool.

“Pulisic and Havertz are blessed with pace and great technique, and Werner is a lethal finisher.

“Havertz, in particular, is going to be a massive player for Chelsea. He is a better acquisition this summer than Jadon Sancho would be.”

Chelsea’s opening game of the 2020/21 Premier League season will take place at the Amex in Brighton, with kick-off set for 21:15 (CET).
