Kai Havertz draws similarities between Frank Lampard and his own playing style and is eager to learn from the former midfielder.

On Friday night, a long-running transfer saga finally reached its conclusion as Chelsea announced the signing of Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen.

The Blues reportedly shelled out €85 million (£75.8m) to acquire the services of the attacking midfielder before he put pen to paper on a five-year contract.

The German international enjoyed a mesmerizing season with Leverkusen in 2019/20 as he netted 18 times and set up nine more across 45 matches.

Regarded as one of the brightest prospects in all of Europe, the 21-year old was understood to be on the radar of several European powerhouses before he picked Chelsea as his next destination.

And Havertz insists the opportunity to learn from his childhood hero Frank Lampard was a major factor in his decision.

“Of course he had a big impact on my decision because I loved him as a player and watched him very often, and I think I can learn from him now he is a manager as well,” he told the official club website.

“I think he is a very humble person and a great guy and I can’t wait to play with him and learn from him.

“He was very offensive like me and he loves to score goals, and I love to score goals as well so I think he will help me a lot in my position. Also maybe on the things that I can improve and I can’t wait to work with him.”
