Hasenhuttl breaks his silence on Man United links

The Southampton boss has been touted as a potential replacement for Solskjaer as Manchester United manager recently.

Ralph Hasenhuttl has played down talk of him becoming Manchester United manager by insisting his sole interest lies with Southampton, with whom he has a long-term commitment until 2024.

The former RB Leipzig boss has done a splendid job since replacing Mark Hughes at Southampton in December 2018. He’s won widespread praise and a ranking among the Premier League’s finest coaches.

From struggling for survival to battling it out for a top-four spot, Southampton’s progress under Hasenhuttl has been hard to ignore.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, in comparison, has delivered mixed results in the same period at Old Trafford. The Red Devils have struggled for consistency, despite bagging some memorable victories under the Norwegian.

It’s led to growing doubts over Solskjaer’s future, especially as United currently sit in the lower half of the league standings. Mauricio Pochettino and Massimiliano Allegri have been touted as possible replacements.

But one man seemingly not on his way is Hasenhuttl.

“It is not really something I listen to,” said the Saints boss as quoted on Reuters.

“I find myself listening to the radio when they talk about football, it is interesting to hear.

“My only interest is what happens at this club. I signed a long-term contract, the way we are improving this club gives me so much joy. I think there is something special growing here.”

Hasenhuttl and Southampton will face United at St Mary’s on Sunday afternoon in the Premier League.
