Manchester United captain Harry Maguire will be charged with aggravated assault after getting involved in a brawl in Greece.

What was supposed to be a vacation for Harry Maguire has ended in the worst possible way.

The United captain was on the Greek island of Mykonos with friends and family to blow off steam ahead of the new season in September.

However, Maguire and his friends got involved in a brawl while at the club. To top that, it appears the ex-Leicester man and his friends used swear words at the Greek police who tried to calm the storm at the scene.

Manchester United were quick to confirm that the 27-year-old has so far co-operated with the Greek police.

Regardless, a statement from a police spokesperson gives an account of what happened at the club. Maguire is now set to be charged with assault.

“When the brawl was all sorted out, one of the two groups – with the football players – started verbally abusing officers.” Goal quoted a police spokesperson.

“There were several policemen there. At some point, one of the three members of the group – they were aged 27, 28, and 29 – threw a swing at one of the policemen and a fight ensued.”

“All of the three were arrested but during the effort to do so, the other two, including the football player(Maguire), got violent also. They threw down at least two policemen, hit them with their fists and kicked them.

“I can’t tell you what they were telling us. All English swear words against the authorities and against the work of the police. All three, including the football player, are being held in custody, locked up in Mykonos cell.

“They will appear before a state prosecutor on the island of Syros later today to be charged with aggravated assault.”

Maguire was an ever-present figure for United in the previously concluded season. He played every minute of their 38 games.

It remains to be seen what happens to the defender but some are already calling on the FA and United to hand him a fine as well as strip him off the captaincy.
