Manchester United defender has been found guilty of assault during his Greek vacations.
Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has been found guilty of aggravated assault, resisting arrest, and repeated attempts at bribery.
Maguire was sentenced to 21 months and 10 days after being found guilty of the charges leveled against him.
The England international was arrested while he was on vacation in Mykonos, Greece. Maguire got involved in a fight that broke out because his sister was allegedly injected with a “rape drug” last Thursday.
A trial was held in the absence of Maguire, his brother Joe and their friend Christopher Sharman. The trio were found guilty of aggravated assault, resisting arrest and attempted bribery.
Maguire and his entourage pleaded “not guilty” of any of the charges held against him.
The lawyer who assisted in the prosecution of the court case revealed that the victims were still waiting for an apology from the Englishman.
Speaking to Sky news, he said: “When you’re a sportsman and a role model you have to accept what you’ve done and say sorry.
“Until today, we haven’t had that – they have said it’s all the fault of the policeman.
“This was not accepted by the court. The victims and the policeman were assaulted. The only thing they want is an apology.”
Despite the off-field issues, Gareth Southgate was included in England’s squad against Iceland. Southgate will make a decision about Maguire after his guilty verdict in the coming days after holding discussions with the 27-year-old himself and the FA.
