Today we celebrate the 29th birthday of Liverpool star Xherdan Shaqiri by taking a brief look back on the player’s career story.
Nicknamed as the ‘Alpine Messi’ and ‘the magic dwarf’, European football fans need no introduction to Xherdan Shaqiri.
The 29-year-old has boasted a magnificent career to date, having played for some of the continent’s biggest clubs. He started out at FC Basel and won the Swiss Super League title three times in a row. Therefore, Bayern Munich signed him in 2012 for €11.8m.
Shaqiri made 81 appearances in nearly three years in Germany, winning an impressive nine pieces of silverware. Three Bundesliga titles and the Champions League also came his way. He then joined Inter Milan briefly in January 2015 before signing for Stoke City later that year.
The winger impressed in Stoke, with many lauding his excellent technique and balance on the ball. And despite failing to prevent the Potters from getting relegated in 2017/18, Shaqiri did enough to earn a €14.75m transfer to Liverpool.
He has since added to his glowering haul of silverware at Anfield by winning a second Champions League and a first Premier League title last season, while also proving himself an invaluable member of the Switzerland national team.
Everyone here on Ace Football wishes the Liverpool man a happy 29th birthday and hope he can cap it off with a strong performance in Switzerland’s Nations League game against Spain tonight.
