We celebrate the 41st birthday of former Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Man United star Michael Owen by taking a brief look back on his career.

Michael James Owen is a retired striker who played for Liverpool, Real Madrid, Newcastle United, Manchester United, and Stoke City across his club career.

The 41-year-old emerged in May 1997 as a teenager by scoring on his debut for the Liverpool senior team against Wimbledon. From that point on, Owen became an instant regular at Anfield and didn’t look back.

The striker finished as the joint top-scorer on 18 goals in his first full season of Premier League football. In no time at all, he became a huge hit and famously scored in the 1998 World Cup against Argentina for England.

Owen’s career peaked in 2001 upon winning a treble with Liverpool in the UEFA Cup, FA Cup, and Football League Cup. His performances won him the Ballon d’Or that year ahead of Raul and Oliver Kahn.

He later spent the 2004/05 season with Real Madrid before returning to the Premier League with Newcastle, where he began to suffer recurring injury setbacks that ultimately cut his career short.

The former England international eventually ended his injury-ravaged spell at St James’ Park in 2009 following Newcastle’s relegation in favor of a free transfer to Manchester United.

And while his days as an elite goalscorer were over by then, Owen still bagged a respectable 17 goals in 52 games and won the Premier League.

After a brief spell with Stoke, Owen retired in 2013 and has since been a racehorse breeder and owner. He also regularly offers his views on football as a pundit and commentator.

Everyone here on Ace Football wishes Michael a happy 41st birthday and all the best for the upcoming year.
