Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic was disappointed to his side lose to Sevilla but insists they will experience from those kinds of games.

Inter Milan put on a strong contest but were unable to stop Europa League kings Sevilla from lifting yet another title. Regardless, Samir Handanovic is happy to take some ‘positives’ from the result.

Inter started well with Lukaku before Luuk de Jong’s brace of headers turned it around for the Spanish side. Not long after, Diego Godin leveled the scoring at 2-2 going into half time.

There was heartbreak for Lukaku at the end of the day. The Belgian accidentally turned in a Diego Carlos bicycle-kick into his own net. It was the decisive moment that sealed the sixth Europa League triumph for Sevilla.

Rather than see it as a disappointment, Handanovic welcomes the experience and calls on Inter to learn from this ahead of the future.

“Great disappointment, but we must go forward. As I said yesterday, this is a starting point and we hope to play many more of these games,” the goalkeeper said as quoted by Football-Italia.

“It’d be easy to point to various things that went wrong, but we had a big chance with Lukaku and it could’ve been a different game there,” continued Handanovic.

“We were two very open and attacking teams. We should’ve held the ball better in the second half, as I think they were more tired and we had more fuel in the tank.”

“It was unfortunate the third goal, as it was going wide and it just hit Romelu’s foot, so that was bad luck and ultimately decided the match.”

Handanovic concluded by hoping to learn from the defeat ahead of next season and also congratulated Sevilla in the process.

“We can build on the solid foundations for next season. Sevilla showed themselves to be once again very tough to beat and we can learn from the experience.”
