Westfalenstadion is home to one of the most sought-after talents in world football but prising him away will not be an easy task.
Erling Haaland exiting Borussia Dortmund before the end of the next season is unlikely, says club CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke.
Haaland joined forces with the German outfit after completing a €20 million switch from Austrian side RB Salzburg in January 2019.
The Norwegian marksman took the Bundesliga by storm, scoring 13 goals in 15 games in the second half of 2019-20.
Despite being just 20 years of age, he is regarded as one of the most lethal finishers in the world, and European elites are reportedly circling for his signature.
Real Madrid have been mooted as the young striker’s next destination while he has also been linked with a move to Bayern Munich, Manchester United, and FC Barcelona.
Amid all the transfer rumors, the BVB chief has advised Haaland to follow the example of Robert Lewandowski – who spent four years at the Signal Iduna Park – and develop his game before seeking a new and bigger challenge.
Watzke told Kicker: “I don’t think that will happen. Erling and his advisor Mino Raiola know what they have in us. I can only advise him to do things like Robert Lewandowski.
“Haaland should give himself the time to mature into an absolute world-class player in Dortmund. You won’t be able to do that in a year.
“Because it is clear that if Erling should leave us at some point, then he will only go to an even bigger club, and so many are not considered.
“If you join a club like – just for an example – Real Madrid, you have to be world-class.”
