Chelsea have emerged as one of the contenders to sign Erling Haaland but a Blues legend warns such a move might bring consequences.

Chelsea legend Frank Leboeuf has warned that signing Haaland could be a ‘disaster’ if the player doesn’t fit the club’s chemistry.

The Blues have been strongly linked with the Norwegian as they look to bolster their forward line ahead of next season. At the moment, the Dortmund ‘goal machine’ is among the very best in his position and can’t stop scoring at the moment.

Timo Werner was supposed to bring that ruthlessness in front of goal for the Blues but his signing hasn’t worked according to plan. The German has bagged 10 goals across all competitions for Chelsea but has been largely inconsistent for good spells and even the subject of criticism on a number of occasions.

However, any club looking to sign Haaland would have to pay a substantial amount to convince Dortmund to part ways with their prized asset.

Former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf has shared his thoughts on the Blues’ pursuit of the 20-year-old.

“Haaland is a beast,” he said as quoted by the Daily Mail.

“Of course it would be a plus for Chelsea. But now you have to think financially and economically, and you also have to also think and make sure your dressing room is going to be following the coach.”

“If you put Haaland (in the team) you lose [Olivier] Giroud,’ he added. ‘But you might lose [Kai] Havertz, you might lose Werner as well. What about [Christian] Pulisic? Where are you going to play [Hakim] Ziyech?”

“That is an equation that you have to make sure is going to work and that the results are going to be good for the club.”

“You can add talents, that is not a problem. But you have to make sure the chemistry works. Otherwise it is going for disaster. Having only talent doesn’t make sure you are going to win something.”

Asides from the humongous fee it might take to sign Haaland, Chelsea would also have to contend with the likes of Real Madrid and the Manchester clubs for his signature. That could prove to be another stumbling block on its own.
