The Norwegian hitman wasted no time to get among the goals following his return from an injury hiatus.

Erling Haaland scored twice as Borussia Dortmund beat Mainz 3-1 in their Bundesliga fixture on Saturday.

The victory helped Borussia Dortmund establish a two-point lead over rivals and defending champions Bayern Munich, although Bayern can reclaim the top spot by winning their game in hand.

Haaland suffered a muscular injury in late September and was forced to sit out Dortmund’s Bundesliga meeting with Borussia Monchengladbach and Augsburg as well as the Champions League match against Sporting.

He was back in the line-up for the Mainz clash, and the young forward wasted no time to get back among the goals. The 21-year-old doubled his side’s in the 54th minute, converting a spot-kick using sheer power after captain Marco Reus had opened the scoring. He then sealed the victory deep into stoppage time, helping BVB maintain their perfect home record this season in the process.

The Norway international has now taken his 2021-22 tally up to a remarkable 13 goals and four assists in just nine appearances for the German club so far.

An incredible scene unfolded at the Signal Iduna Park in the wake of the victory as one particularly overwhelmed fan raced onto the pitch with the intention of taking a selfie with the man of the hour. Haaland not only fulfilled the enthusiastic pitch invader wish but also proceeded to celebrate wildly with him.
