Chelsea have added six players to their ranks, making them genuine title contenders but will have to allay fears first.

Hakim Ziyech was the first. Then Timo Werner arrived from RB Leipzig. He was followed by Ben Chilwell, Malanga Sarr, and Thiago Silva. Kai Havertz is the latest to join the Blues pride.

With Rennes goalkeeper, Eduard Mendy on his way, Frank Lampard will have an impressive squad at this disposal.

The pressure is huge to improve on their Premier League fourth place and nothing is for certain. Chelsea legend, Ruud Gullit has similar concerns.

The Dutchman is impressed with the additions made to the squad but is not keeping his hopes up.

Gullit knows the club’s ambition is to challenge for the Premier League title but believes it will depend on how the players adapt to the competition.

“It’s clear Chelsea are trying to break into the top two,” Goal quoted Gullit.

“They have made some good signings but that doesn’t mean anything yet. You never know how they will blend in.

“It’s the Premier League, a different league – different pace, different everything. It’s not easy.”

Brighton & Hove Albion welcome the Blues for the 2020/21 season opener. Ziyech, Chilwell and Silva are not available for the fixture.
