Ex-Man City star Trevor Sinclair believes Lionel Messi to Manchester is inevitable after Guardiola extended his contract at the club.

It is getting more and more likely that Manchester City will sign Lionel Messi after the latest contract action from Guardiola, says Sinclair.

To the joy of City fans and the surprise of many, the Spanish manager penned an extension to his current contract at the Etihad stadium.

The Citizens reportedly tried to make a move for Messi in the summer but the Argentine decided to stay put at Barcelona.

For Guardiola, his contract extension might or might not mean much. What it means though is that this will be the first time Pep will spend more than five years at a single club. Having joined in 2016, he will now remain at the club until the summer of 2023 at least.

With that in mind and continued reports of a potential reunion with Messi and his former manager, Sinclair sees no reason why that move would not happen after the latest turn of events.

“It’s outstanding news,” Sinclair said to talkSPORT regarding a new contract for Guardiola.

“Not only has he won the trophies, but you think about 100 points, the treble, winning back-to-back Premier League titles”

“He’s done unbelievably well at Manchester City.”

On the Messi to City transfer talk, Sinclair believes it’s only a matter of time until it happens.

“I can’t see it any other way,” he added.

“He is too young to go back to Argentina, and I don’t think there is any other club where they have the right manager in place where Messi would go in and feel comfortable under that manager.”

“I feel it is inevitable it is going to happen…and I can’t wait for it to happen!”
