The Citizens crushed Liverpool in their first game after the international break.

Pep Guardiola has hailed Julian Alvarez for his brilliant display in Manchester City’s 4-1 win over Liverpool.

The Reds went ahead through Mohamed Salah early on, but City came back into the game to pull off a devastating comeback. Alvarez, who replaced injured Erling Haaland in City’s attacking line, scored the equalizer in the 27th minute.

The goal inspired the hosts to score three more times in the second half, snatching a crucial home victory.

Speaking after the game, Guardiola told BT Sport: “He was involved in everything. An exceptional player.

“I think Man City made an incredible signing for this price [£14M]. He plays for Argentina, a World Cup Champion, playing with Messi, because he has something.”

The Citizens continued their four-game winning streak in the Premier League, staying within touching distance of Arsenal. They seem to have regained their best form, with Guardiola praising their performance against Liverpool.

“It was a perfect performance,” the Spaniard added. “One of the best Man City performances in my seven years at the club.”

City will face Southampton in the Premier League next Saturday before hosting Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarterfinals three days later.
