Guardiola admits Manchester City were not anywhere close to their best against Leicester City and outlined the need for improvement.
Guardiola could only watch on in despair as his side got thumped by Leicester City in a 5-2 scoreline on Sunday evening.
It was the first time in the Spaniard’s managerial career that one of his sides had conceded five goals.
Despite taking the lead early on, Guardiola watched his side struggle without key players, notably Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus.
Jamie Vardy was the star of the day with a hattrick that also saw him become the only person to have achieved that feat twice against the City boss.
The loss was also just the second time Guardiola has lost his opening home game of a league season.
After the game, the City boss refused to deflect any blame and admitted his side must do well to improve in their upcoming games.
“We put extra pressure on ourselves and have to be more calm. We got nervous. When you give away three penalties you cannot win,” Guardiola said as quoted by the Daily Star.
“It’s hard. We have to try to see what we have to do to avoid this happening again. It’s my job and I feel bad for the guys and the club. We have to improve.
“It’s tough and not easy to accept it, but we have to and then move on to the next game.”
Guardiola and City will be looking to go back to winning ways when they take on Burnley in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
