The English midfielder left City despite making a promising start to his career under Guardiola.

Cole Palmer’s demand for guaranteed playing time convinced Pep Guardiola to allow his transfer from Manchester City to Chelsea.

Palmer made a total of 41 senior appearances under Guardiola before deciding to leave City in the summer transfer window. Having scored in both the Community Shield and European Super Cup finals, Palmer looked ready to secure more playing time this season. However, a £40m offer from Chelsea convinced the Citizens to allow the youngster’s exit.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of City’s upcoming match against Chelsea, Guardiola said of Palmer: “The reason [Plamer left City] was that he wanted game time.

“He has it so congratulations. He is a guy who came from the academy, he’s having success because it’s good for him and wish him the best.”

Palmer has quickly established himself as a key midfielder under Mauricio Pochettino. The English star has made nine Premier League appearances for the Blues, scoring three goals and two assists.

This weekend, Chelsea take on City, who reached the top of the Premier League table after Tottenham’s defeat against Chelsea. The Citizens will then prepare for a crucial game against Liverpool next Sunday.
