Ahead of Manchester City’s match against Crystal Palace, Pep Guardiola revealed which player has been the most influential during his tenure.

There are many Manchester City players who are considered influential by Pep Guardiola. But none of them is as important as Raheem Sterling for the Catalan manager. Ever since he arrived to coach the squad, the English winger has been the most consistent and important player next to a couple more. But the one who scored the big goals for his side, has always been Sterling.

The Premier League titles he’s won are thanks to Raheem’s involvement over the whole season. All the more reason for Pep Guardiola to support his player when he is not delivering the usual results. As the weekend approaches for Manchester City with an evident goal-drought, Guardiola can only encourage his offensive players through statements like this.

Pep trusts Sterling will come through this season.

“He’s an incredibly important player for us,” said Guardiola via Goal. “Everything we have done in the past without him would not have been possible. He will score goals, he will make assists and he will help in all departments like wingers normally aren’t able to do. I am more than happy and delighted to have him here with us. If you look at the results for the top teams, every game is complicated and difficult.

“When you win away against two incredible teams like Chelsea and Man Utd the headlines are nice but the reality was Brighton and we knew it. We played really good against Brighton. We created chances to score three or four goals but we suffered in the last minutes not because we were bad but because they were good. Every game is difficult and Sunday will be no exception.”
