After another victory against Everton in the FA Cup, Pep Guardiola hailed the incredible run but also took time to warn his players.
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have won 34 matches, lost two, and drawn three since the most recent international break. That record alone is arguably one of the most impressive feats we’ve seen from any football club this season. This is the main reason the Citizens are considered the only squad that has a chance at defeating Bayern Munich in a direct confrontation. For Pep Guardiola, these achievements are very important but so is his players’ well-being.
There are many stars who will travel to represent their countries in the upcoming international break. The gaffer is scared of what may happen if one of them gets injured. It is well-known that many football clubs lose their momentum in this specific March international break every season. Guardiola warned his players in order to prevent this from happening. They simply can’t take any major risks that could jeopardize the season for Manchester City. Keep in mind they are still alive in all four competitions.
Guardiola’s statements after beating Everton.
Sky Sports picked up the following statement from Pep: “We have spoken about the international break, to be careful, but you don’t what is going to happen. I hope they can come back well, not just for us but for them. We have been incredibly controlled in these four months but now the people are traveling. We are lucky that England is the best country for vaccinating a lot of people and that has made our lives easier. Hopefully the people that go abroad can come back safe. Hopefully the bubbles are controlled. Of course it is important for all the clubs. Since the last international break, four months, we have played 39 games; won 34, lost two and drew three.
“The commitment of everyone playing every three days is incredible. We could not enjoy the period after one game because three days later, another one. This run has been one of the greatest achievements we have done together even though we haven’t won a trophy yet. It is more than remarkable. This was the toughest game we played since the last international break but we didn’t make any mistakes. All the players were fantastic. With (substitutes) Riyad Mahrez and Kevin De Bruyne could change the rhythm in the last minutes and in the end we scored the goals.”
