Pep Guardiola has issued the latest update on De Bruyne, with the Belgian having picked up an injury against Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final.

Pep Guardiola has issued what was a positive update on De Bruyne following City’s 2-1 comeback win against Aston Villa in the Premier League on Wednesday night.

The Citizens trailed after just 21 seconds as John McGinn scored for the Villans, but they managed to level the proceedings in the 22nd minute through Phil Foden.

City then took the lead in the 40th minute through Rodrigo, who beat the advancing Emiliano Martinez with a header to score into an empty net. Both sides were reduced to 10 men, with John Stones and Matty Cash getting their marching orders. In the end, City hanged on to their lead and finished the game as comfortable winners.

Speaking after the result, Guardiola provided an update on De Bruyne and confirmed that the foot injury sustained by the Belgian was not serious as first feared.

He added that there is an outside chance of the midfielder being fit for the Carabao Cup final but ideally, he could return for the Champions League semi-final ties.

He said to the club’s website: “It was less than we expected and yesterday he felt much better.”

“Today I don’t know because I didn’t speak with him, but we will see tomorrow’s training.”

“I think if it’s not really for this final hopefully, maybe he will be ready for the semi-finals of the Champions League.”

City have shown that they can do without De Bruyne on many occasions this season but with titles still lying in wait to be won, the influence of their Belgian playmaker would be very much welcome.
