The Manchester City manager got a taste of Tottenham’s prospects in the Premier League for this season and was impressed.
The Premier League table doesn’t lie, says Pep Guardiola, who reckons Tottenham are a serious title threat for this season.
Jose Mourinho’s side defeated Manchester City 2-0 in north London on Saturday to take the lead in the standings until Liverpool and Leicester City have finished their match on Sunday night at least.
City, on the other hand, fell down to 11th after suffering their second loss of the campaign. An eight-point gap is between them and Spurs now, although they do still have a game in reserve.
But, with only 10 goals to the club’s name, Guardiola accepts his side have got work to do in order to catch Spurs.
“They are top of the league. So obviously they are more contenders than anyone else right now,” said the City coach as quoted on Football365.
“Of course, there are a lot of points to play for, we’re eight points down, we have one game less, but there are a lot of teams in front of us. We have to start winning games, if not that will not be possible, we know it. We have to try to win games, we know it.
“In terms of the game, I think we are not far away, but we struggle to score the goals right now, and it is not about particularly for one person or the other one. That is the reality, 10 goals…is not good enough.”
Son Heung-min and substitute Giovani Lo Celso were the goalscorers for Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Now Guardiola must prepare City for a trip to Olympiakos on Wednesday for their next Champions League match in Group C.
