Barcelona presidential candidate Toni Freixa says Pep Guardiola could one day return to the club as head coach.
Toni Freixa has a future plan to lift Barcelona back to their glory days and it could include Pep Guardiola.
The current City boss made the grade from Barcelona B boss and eventually got the rise as first team manager.
In his four-year stint as Barca boss, Guardiola made the Catalan giants a force to reckon with across Europe. He won a remarkable 14 trophies in that time-frame.
Things are no longer the same at Barca and the club have fallen from grace. The biggest evidence to that was their 8-2 thrashing at the hands of Bayern Munich in the Champions League. Even worse, captain Lionel Messi has plans to leave the club this summer.
Ex-club director Toni Freixa will compete to be Barcelona’s president next year and believes someone like Guardiola can take the club back to where they belong – with the elite of Europe.
Toni is a well known lover of the City boss and has always heaped praise on the 49-year-old from time to time.
“Pep once let it be known that he would like to head the Barca academy in the future, but he would also be a wonderful solution for the first team,” he told Goal.
“The important thing is that the team plays successful and exciting football again, and that nothing like what happened against Bayern happens.”
“They exposed us for over 90 minutes, all the mistakes and failures of the team, but even more so the weaknesses of the sporting leadership in recent years. It was the end of the end. Now it’s time for a change.”
Guardiola has one year left on his current contract with Manchester City and has so far refused to commit to a new deal.
