Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says the 1-1 draw between Manchester City and Liverpool was a fair result.

Man City boss Pep Guardiola has insisted that a draw was the right result between themselves and Liverpool on Sunday.

The game got off to a scintillating start in the first half. Liverpool started well and were ahead after 15 minutes. Mo Salah opened the scoring for the Reds from the penalty spot.

They had chances to extend their lead, but Man City equalized just past the half-hour mark. Kevin De Bruyne passed it to Gabriel Jesus in the box, who turned and finished well past Allison to equalize.

Guardiola could have seen his side lead at the break as they were given a penalty of their own in the 39th minute. De Bruyne had a golden chance from the spot but took his effort wide in surprising fashion.

City were the slightly better side in a quieter second half. They could not find a winning goal though, as it finished 1-1 at the Etihad stadium.

Guardiola reflected on the game and admitted it was a decent result for both sides.

“A tight game, they started well, we conceded a goal and conceded a penalty like at Leicester. It was tight, in the second half we had more clear chances but a draw is a fair result,” he said to BBC Sport.

“Defending against Liverpool is not easy, normally they have three in attack and now four, they ran in behind and you cannot stay there and they play in between the players. It is not easy to play but we adjusted a bit and had more courage to stay high. We made a good goal and unfortunately we missed a penalty. In games or opponents like Liverpool, if you miss a penalty it is more difficult.”

“Three games, three goals for Gabriel Jesus, he did not train much so he did really good.”

“When you cannot win in 80-85 minutes, you cannot lose it. When you play against a contender like Liverpool, you have to try and win but you cannot lose. We know each other quite well.”

Guardiola will see his side play another tough fixture following the resumption of the international break. The Citizens will travel to North London where they’ll take on a high-flying Tottenham side in about two weeks from now.
